This book can be used as an introductory guide for people who know little about D-Day at Normandy in June 1944 and want to understand its background, purpose and the men who fought there. It includes quotes from veterans who served and photos, many never-before-published (front and back covers contain these).

Stories are based on the author’s interviews with 250 World War II veterans. Additional research was provided by her participation in a WWII tour of Europe that included standing on Omaha Beach and other related areas.
Army, Navy, Army Air Corps are recognized with a special story about a pilot shot down and captured by German forces. A tribute to chaplains is included, as well as a seaman who volunteered for a special project that made him a ‘sitting duck’ for the Nazis.
